Initiations

Prabhupāda: [leads responsive chanting of prayers]

... gato 'pi vā yaḥ smaret puṅḍarīkākṣaṁ sa bahyābhyantaraṁśuciḥ [Garuḍa Purāṅa]

śrī viṣṅu...

Pradyumna: [continues leading of chanting]

śrī viṣṅu śrī viṣṅu śrī viṣṅu

Om... [break] ...everyone who is going to be initiated.

Prabhupāda: What are the prohibited rules? [break] Yes. And how many rounds you'll chant, minimum?

Devotee: [indistinct]

Prabhupāda: Thank you. So your name is Praśasya dāsa. Praśasya means one who observes the rules and regulation.

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: Hare Kṛṣṅa.

Karandhara: Costas? Citraka.

Prabhupāda: Hmm? Citraka. [japa] You should offer obeisances. Yes. That is the etiquette. So what are the rules and Costas: [indistinct]

Prabhupāda: Yes. Your name is Citraka. Citraka is one of the personal servant of Kṛṣṅa.

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: [aside:] You can hang it there.

Karandhara: Lee? Lee? That's all right. Let them stop. Come here. Is Prabhu dāsa.

Prabhupāda: So, you know the rules?

Lee: No meat-eating...

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Lee: ...no illicit sex, no gambling and no intoxication.

Prabhupāda: Including smoking, yes. [laughter] So your name is Prabhu dāsa. Prabhu means the Lord, and his servant.

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: Hare Kṛṣṅa.

Karandhara: Paul? Pūjana.

Prabhupāda: What are the rules and regulation?

Paul: No illicit sex, no gambling, no meat-eating and no intoxication.

Prabhupāda: So your name is Pūjana dāsa. Pūjana, "the embodiment of worship."

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: Hare Kṛṣṅa.

Karandhara: Dave? Name is Pārtha.

Prabhupāda: Eh?

Karandhara: Pārtha.

Karandhara: Dave Mustour. Which Dave is this? Are you Dave Mustour?

Prabhupāda: So what are the rules?

Dave: No meat-eating, no intoxication, no illicit sex, no gambling.

Prabhupāda: So your name is Pārtha dāsa. Pārtha is another name of Arjuna.

Devotees: Jaya! All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Karandhara: Dave Wright. This one is Nātha.

Prabhupāda: Hmm?

Karandhara: Nātha.

Prabhupāda: Nātha. So, what are the...

Dave [2]: No meat, fish or eggs, no intoxication, no illicit sex, no gambling.

Prabhupāda: So your name is Nātha dāsa. Nātha is the name of the master, Kṛṣṅa, sa-nātha jīvita. Sa-nātha. Just like if one lives under some able master he is always satisfied, similarly, if we remain servant of Kṛṣṅa we'll feel satisfaction always. Come on.

Karandhara: Jennifer. Name is Niścintya.

Prabhupāda: Niścintya. [japa] ...harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam [Cc Ādi 17.21].

[In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari.]

So what are the rules and regulation?

Jennifer: No gambling, no illicit sex, no meat-eating, no intoxication.

Prabhupāda: So your name is Niścintya dāsī. Cintya means anxiety, and niścintya means no anxiety.

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: So, no anxiety is Kṛṣṅa. And one who is under Kṛṣṅa, he is also, he has no anxiety. Otherwise always anxious. Material existence means anxiety. Anyone who is in the material existence, he is always in anxiety. Sadā samudvigna-dhiyām asad-grahāt [SB 7.5.5].

[Prahlāda Mahārāja replied: O best of the asuras, King of the demons, as far as I have learned from my spiritual master, any person who has accepted a temporary body and temporary household life is certainly embarrassed by anxiety because of having fallen in a dark well where there is no water but only suffering. One should give up this position and go to the forest [vana]. More clearly, one should go to Vṛndāvana, where only Kṛṣṅa consciousness is prevalent, and should thus take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.]

Niścintya means no anxiety. So you are the maidservant of niścintya. Come on. Hare Kṛṣṅa.

Karandhara: Marilyn? Uttama dāsī.

Prabhupāda: Hmm. Hare Kṛṣṅa. [laughs] [japa] What are the rules and regulation?

Marilyn: No meat-eating, no illicit sex, no gambling and no intoxication.

Prabhupāda: So your name is Uttama dāsī. Uttama. Uttama means beyond this material world. Kṛṣṅa is uttama. Uttama, Puruṣottama. Uttama. Kṛṣṅa's another name is Puruṣa-uttama. So you are servant of, maidservant of Uttama, Kṛṣṅa.

Devotees: Jaya!

Karandhara: Shelley.

Prabhupāda: [japa]

Karandhara: Svarūpa dāsī.

Prabhupāda: Svarūpa. [japa] So, what are the rules and regulation?

Shelley: No [indistinct].

Prabhupāda: Loudly. Yes, so that others can hear that you are promising before Deity. [laughter] Yes.

Shelley: No meat-eating, no illicit sex...

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Shelley: ...no intoxication, no gambling.

Prabhupāda: If you promise like that, then the all the butcher's shop will be closed. [laughter] Naturally the slaughterhouse will be closed.

Devotee: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: And people will be closed to sinful activities. Yes? So?

Karandhara: Svarūpa.

Prabhupāda: Svarūpa dāsī. Svarūpa dāsī means... Svarūpa means spiritual identity. Our spiritual identity is ever-eternal servant. Svarūpa dāsī means you remain eternal servant of Kṛṣṅa. Don't forget.

Devotees: Jaya!

Karandhara: Joanne?

Prabhupāda: Hare Kṛṣṅa.

Karandhara: Joanne?

Prabhupāda: What is the name?

Karandhara: It is Jayabhadra.

Prabhupāda: Eh?

Karandhara: Jayabhadra.

Prabhupāda: Jayabhadra. So, what are the rules and regulation? Loudly, please.

Joanne: No taking of intoxication, no meat-eating, no gambling, no illicit sex.

Prabhupāda: Thank you. So, Jayabhadra dāsī. Now, Bhadra is Kṛṣṅa, the most gentle, and you are servant, maidservant of Kṛṣṅa, Jayabhadra.

Devotees: Jaya!

Prabhupāda: That's all right?

Karandhara: Go now and have kīrtana?

Prabhupāda: Yes. Kīrtana. Yes, have kīrtana little. [end]
