Vedic Thoughts

1999 / Back to Godhead Magazine #33-02, 1999

In the Gītā, in plain and simple language, it is stated that Śrī Kṛṣṅa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There is none equal to or greater than Him. … He is the root of the impersonal Brahman and Paramātmā; the Supersoul in every entity is His plenary portion. He is the fountainhead of everything, and everyone is advised to surrender unto His lotus feet.

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Bhagavad-gītā As It Is 7.15, Purport

The unalloyed devotional service rendered to Me by My devotees brings Me under their control. I cannot be thus controlled by those engaged in mystic yoga, Sāṅkhya philosophy, pious work, Vedic study, austerity, or renunciation.

Lord Śrī Kṛṣṅa Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.14.20

What is painful for saintly persons who strictly adhere to the truth? How could there not be independence for pure devotees who know the Supreme Lord as the substance? What deeds are forbidden for persons of the lowest character? And what cannot be given up for the sake of Lord Kṛṣṅa by those who have fully surrendered at His lotus feet.

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.1.58

One who constantly sings the glories of the Lord is surely elevated to the same planet as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Kṛṣṅa appreciates this singing even more than the prayers offered by Lord Śiva.

Liṅga Purāṅa

Through the association of devotees, one can engage in the service of the Lord by hearing and chanting. Thus one can revive his dormant Kṛṣṅa consciousness and, sticking to the cultivation of Kṛṣṅa consciousness, return home, back to Godhead, even in this life.

Bharata Mahārāja Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.12.16

Childish fools pursue external desires and enter the wide chords of death. The sages, having comprehended the liberated condition, never pray for the temporary things of this world.

Katha Upaniṣad 4.2

For one who has given up material sense enjoyment and accepted the principles of devotional service, the opulence of Viṣṅuloka [the kingdom of God] is awaiting.
