Welcome

2000 / Back to Godhead Magazine #34-06, 2000

IN THIS ISSUE we hope to satisfy you both intellectually and aesthetically. Bhaktivedanta Institute scientist Sadāpūta Dāsa tackles tough questions about the universe of the Vedas, and watercolor artist Annapūrṅa Devī Dāsī shows how Kṛṣṅa consciousness can simply mean being moved by the beauty of Kṛṣṅa. The scientist and the artist both find refuge under the shelter of Kṛṣṅa.

Kṛṣṅa offers His shelter to all of us. Ultimately, He wants our full surrender. Because we’re eternally subordinate parts of Him, surrender is natural for us. But uncovering our original nature takes time. Fortunately, as Satsvarūpa Dāsa Goswami explains in “No Fear,” Lord Kṛṣṅa gratefully accepts all our service to Him, and even a small amount guarantees us a chance to keep working on our spiritual progress in the next life. “The Story of Jīvātmā” tells how we got caught up in the endless cycle of lives and how to get out of it.

Although we’re tiny souls lost in a perplexing universe, we belong in the spiritual world with Lord Kṛṣṅa in one of His innumerable forms. We learn about that world and those forms in “Lord Caitanya’s Teachings to Sanātana Goswami.”

Hare Kṛṣṅa.—Nāgarāja Dāsa, Editor

Our Purposes

• To help all people discern reality from illusion, spirit from matter, the eternal from the temporary. • To expose the faults of materialism. • To offer guidance in the Vedic techniques of spiritual life. • To preserve and spread the Vedic culture. • To celebrate the chanting of the holy names of God as taught by Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. • To help every living being remember and serve Śrī Kṛṣṅa, the Personality of Godhead.
